Past Projects
Community Access, Inc. past projects include:
- Demonstration project on supported employment with the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS)
- Project with the WV Regional Jail System that assisted short-term, non-violent offenders with disabilities with vocational evaluations, educational, and job placement
- Welfare reform project with the WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR) that helped TANF recipients with disabilities obtain employment
- Project funded by the US Department of Labor to connect the local One-Stop Career Centers with community-based services and assist people with employment
- Student Transition to Employment Project (STEP) - Assisted special education teachers and aides in becoming independent vendors with the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services in order to provide job coaching and follow-up job services to special education students after graduation.
- Transitions to Employment - Assisted residents of the Samaritan Inn and veterans served by the RSLC Veterans Service Center in career planning & support, financial literacy & management.
- Rural People Rural Policy Initiative - Connects diverse organizations to promote policy and action to improve the quality of life available to the people of Appalachia.
- Pathways to the Future - In 2016, the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS) engaged Community Access, Incorporated, to support the state’s effort to enhance pre-employment transition services (Pre-ETS) for students with disabilities in accordance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014. Based on needs identified by stakeholders throughout the State, Community Access, Inc. formulated five action areas for the “Pathways to the Future” project:
- Developing community-based work exploration programs;
- Growing a statewide parent training network;
- Providing additional capacity with transition resource coordinators;
- Creating statewide outreach and communication resources; and
- Strengthening partnerships.
